Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where do I park and how do I pay?
Ferguson Psychology is located just outside downtown in the beautiful NW neighbourhood of Kensington. There are over 500 street parking stalls and 200 parking lot stalls available nearby. The on-street pay machines accept credit cards and coins. Just enter your licence plate and the 4-digit zone number for the area where you’re parked. You can also easily start and stop a parking session through your account with the MyParking App for iPhones and Androids. You can even enter Ferguson Psychology’s address (#300, 1130 Kensington Rd NW, T2N3P3) and the app will find available ParkPlus zones nearby!
  • My child or teen has an appointment. Do I stay or come back?
Counselling sessions may include the parents or be individually with the child or teen. Depending on the type of assessment, these sessions are generally completed individually with the child or teen, in accordance the College of Alberta Psychologists guidelines. For the time being, most of the chairs in the office waiting space have been removed as a COVID-19 safety measure, so it’s best to arrive no more than 5 minutes early. Many parents choose to leave and come back at an agreed-upon time. Take some time to yourself and relax (or bring your laptop!) in one of 7 local cafes in the neighbourhood. You can easily go for a stroll on the bike path or on the pedestrian friendly streets in Kensington and check out the unique local shops.
  • How is payment accepted?
Payment by Visa, MasterCard or E-transfer is accepted at the end of each session. A receipt will be provided which the client can submit to their benefit insurance plan for reimbursement according to their unique coverage.
  • What about health insurance coverage?
When clients visit a Registered Psychologist, empoyee benefit plans or health insurance coverage can often partially or fully reimburse the session fees. Clients are encouraged to understand their own unique health benefit coverage for psychological services. Susan Ferguson is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. Call your provider to find out specific information about your benefit plan. Here are some helpful questions to ask: • What is the specific coverage for services by a Registered Psychologist? • Is a physician referral required? • Is pre-approval or an estimate of cost required? • Is the coverage for psychological services per person or per family? • What is the anniversary (renewal) date for psychological services coverage? • Is there an annual limit? • Is there a daily (per session) limit? • Are there any other restrictions or limitations?
  • What about direct billing to my insurance?
Direct billing is available to Alberta Blue Cross and Green Shield Canada. Clients will be provided with a copy of the claim report for their records.
  • Are virtual appointments available?
Yes! Appointments can be either in-person or virtually through a secure tele-health platform. To have a great virtual session, it helps to use an ethernet connection (or secure wi-fi) and a headset with a microphone. Current clients can schedule a virtual appointment by clicking here.
  • What about covid-19 safety measures?
Ferguson Psychology follows the COVID-19 guidance of Alberta Health Services and the College of Alberta Psychologists. If anyone in the household has possible symptoms (eg. new cough, congestion, sore throat, etc.), the appointment must either be re-scheduled or shifted to virtual (if appropriate). Face masks are required and enhanced cleaning procedures for common surfaces are in place. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the office. More detailed information will be provided when new clients book a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation here.
